Hatch Regains Control in New York
Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour / Binghamton, NY
by Rick Davis
Swinging into Ball Busters Billiards in Binghamton, NY, the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour offered up its latest action over the March 31-April 1 weekend. Staying strong on the winners’ side all weekend was Dennis Hatch, who ultimately defeated the entire 26-player field to take the event undefeated.
On the winners’ side Hatch saw his only competition late in the event as Joey Korsiak met him in the hot seat match, and although the match kept close, Hatch played stronger, taking the match 9-6.
On the one-loss side many of the tour’s usual suspects were scrambling to have their chance at Hatch in the finals. Karen Corr, top WPBA pro and winner of the last Joss Tour stop, eliminated Daryl Osborne 9-7, while Bucky Souvanthong ousted Angelo Inness 9-5. Souvanthong, a consistent top finisher on tour, shifted straight into top gear and drilled Corr 9-1 in the quarterfinals. With only two matches remaining, Korsiak faced Souvanthong in the semifinals and eliminated him 9-3 in no time, thus earning a rematch against Hatch.
With the finals on hand things kept as close as possible, going double-hill, but in the end it was Hatch who dropped the final axe, defeating Korsiak 9-8. Hatch is well-known on this tour, taking three events in a row this past year along with a handful of others, and with him back on top all eyes are sure to watch out for him at the tour’s next stop, April 14 at Golden Cue Billiards in Albany, NY.
