Team Rodriguez and Sanz Undefeated

{sidebar id=1} The team of Jorge Rodriguez and Pablo Sanz were in compete control at Masters Billiards in Queens, NY, where the Tri-State Tour brought along their April 1 offering in the form of a handicapped A-D scotch doubles 9-ball event. 
Team Rodriguez/Sanz met Jim Ireland and Steve Geyer in the hot seat match and just slipped past with a 10-9 score. On the one-loss side the team of Mike Wong and Greg Hecht knocked out the team of Carl Yusef Kahn and Niko Berdzenishvilli 7-5, while the teams of Brenda Heres and Joe Ferrante eliminated Mark Mallari and teammate Michele Li 7-4. Team Heres/Ferrante got into gear, squashing Wong and Hecht 7-1 in the quarterfinals then Ireland and Geyer 7-6 in the semifinals.
In the finals the true double-elimination format offered plenty of action. Rodriguez and Sanz had a comfortable 5-2 lead, but after missing two key shots Heres and Ferrante was able to take control to win the set 7-5. In the final set all seemed lost for Rodriguez and Sanz who were down 4-0, but after tying the set at 5- then 6-all, managed to pull together another rack to win the set 7-6 and take the event undefeated.
