2006 Scholarship Applications AvailableBEF opens '06 round of academic scholarships with online materialsColorado Springs, Colorado: The Billiard Congress of America [BCA] and the Billiard Education Foundation [BEF] have issued the BEF Academic Scholarship Applications for the 2006-2007 school year, with updated offerings and criteria. A total of $12,000 will be awarded in the coming year and BCA Business Members are invited to sponsor a scholarship individually at any time. Doing so will help increase these opportunities and aid even more young cueists in their pursuit of higher education.Current scholarships are divided into two categories: an Excellence in Education scholarship of $5,000 is awarded over a two-year term, and seven (7) individual BCA scholarships of $1,000 each are issued annually. Theprogram objective is to grant scholarships to high school seniors who have benefited from the sport of billiards and are pursuing a college education. Last year's winning scholars are listed on the www.BilliardEducation.comwebsite.
To be considered, candidates must possess a minimum 3.0 cumulative gradepoint average (GPA) or higher on a 4.0 scale, plus hold an ACT score of 23or higher - or - an SAT score of 1050 or higher. The applicant must beaccepted to an accredited undergraduate academic program by June 1, 2006,and enrolled with a minimum of 12 hours per semester.The completed application must be accompanied by a letter outlining academicachievements, leadership and/or community service work, plus billiardexperience and a description of the applicant’s background and careerobjectives. The letter should also include personal and professional(academic) goals, chosen discipline of study and an explanation of howscholarship would assist in reaching those goals. A separate 500-1000 wordessay is also required, along with an official high school transcript,SAT/ACT scores, and a head shot photograph.This annual program is administered by the BEF Scholarship Committee, underthe direction and guidance of the BEF Board of Trustees.
