Afternoon Matches Conclude at Viking ChampionshipsBy InsidePOOL StaffThe afternoon matches have concluded at the Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour Championships, leaving eight players remaining in the winners’ bracket. In the upset of the afternoon, Marty Lawson had a tough victory over tournament favorite Shannon Daulton 11-9.Daulton was up 5-1 when he left a 3 ball dangling in the corner, and all of the sudden it was 5-3 Daulton. Lawson brought the score to 7-6 with some sharp safety play, but Daulton fought back to make it 9-7. With more excellent defense, Lawson tied it at 9 apiece and then took the lead for the first time when Daulton stretched across the table to try for the 6 and missed. one more miss for Daulton in the last rack on the 5 ball and it was all over with an 11-9 win for Lawson.
In the one-loss side, Dee Adkins and Jose Parica met on the feature table at Northfield Billiards. The players fought tooth and nail to trade games until the score reached 9-all. After a safety battle over the 2 ball, Adkins ran out to take the hill, but he scratched on his next break and Parica tied him at 10. From there it was all “The Giant Killer,” as he made three balls on his last break and ran the rest of the rack to win 11-10.In the winners’ bracket, the results are as follows:Marty Lawson d.
