Americans Lead the Pack into Thursday’s Billiards MatchesThirty-six players returned to the IPT’s World Open 8-Ball Championship this morning, and only eighteen will make it through the day’s taxing schedule of five consecutive matches. The top payout for players eliminated today will be $28,502 for 19th place. There are twelve non-tour members still alive: Ronato Alcano, Danny Harriman, Dimitri Jungo, Karl Boyes, Thomas Engert, Hui-Kai Hsia, Antonio Lining, Larry Nevel, Michael Schmidt, Jason Kirkwood, Tony Drago, and Ben Davies. Seven Filipino players still remain, but they are outweighed (for now) by the American players, of which there are nine. Four Germans are still in play, and five players from England/Great Britain. Going into the day, three players remain undefeated for the event: Bustamante, Karl Boyes, and Mick Hill.IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship ForumsVisit the IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship Image Gallery
“Rocket” Rodney Morris finished up his match in a jiffy this morning, winning 8-3 over World All-Around champ Jason Miller. “I felt good—I ran four racks … he missed a couple of shots there and that gave me the momentum. He could not really get started after that. I played pretty solid. I just worry that there are three Americans [in my group]. I beat my first one, and I gotta play two more Americans, and I don’t like to do that. There are a lot more nationalities or different countries to beat up on, so there are mixed emotions there.”Morris still leads the pack with the most break and run-outs at 56. Oliver Ortmann and Francisco Bustamante are the closest to him with 46, and Efren Reyes has 45. Reyes is still going strong, having just bested Charlie Bryant 8-2 with five racks run. “I’m feeling okay—I played good. I think I got a chance to make it to the finals because I play good today, but I don’t know for the next round … this was the first match.” About the back-to-back matches today, he added, “I like to play continuous, not one now and then again later.”Quick LinksPlayer StatsPrize Money Breakdown Round 4 GROUP 76D.
