Archer and Immonen Ousted at World Summit of PoolBy InsidePOOL StaffAfter suffering a surprising loss to Dave “Big Wave” Hemmah 11-8 on Friday night, Johnny Archer met with familiar foe Jeremy “Double J” Jones in the afternoon rounds on Saturday at the World Summit of Pool. Jones and Archer played each other in the final of the Big Apple 9-Ball Challenge, with Archer coming out the victory, but that was not the case today. Although the match began evenly enough, Jones pulled away for an 8-4 lead. He allowed Archer only two more games before logging the 11-6 win.The field began with 32 players this morning, whittled from the original 68. Charlie Williams, defeated yesterday by Danny “Kid Delicious” Basavich, suffered his second loss today to Jose Garcia. Young Hwa Jeong dealt a loss to Charles Bryant 11-7, Chris Szuter defeated Joey Korsiak 11-8 with a 9 ball combo, Edgar Acaba won his match against Evan Broxmeyer 11-1, and Dennis Hatch defeated Mike Dunn. U.S. Open champion Gabe Owen lost to Max Eberle on Thursday evening and then suffered his second loss to Danny Barouty.
Finland’s Mika Immonen, after suffering a defeat at the hands of Allen Rolan of Puerto Rico, met Joey Kong in an early round on Saturday. The match was neck-and-neck at the beginning, but from a 4-all tie, Immonen gave way to Kong, who reached the hill at 10-4. Immonen got a second wind and won four in a row, but it was too little, too late, and Kong got the game he needed for an 11-8 win.Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news from the World Summit of Pool tournament.
