Astounding Abbink Bests Pendleton By InsidePOOL Staff One of the most feared amateur female players in the game today, Rachael Abbink, went through the latest stop of the J. Pechauer Michigan Women’s 9-Ball Tour undefeated. The stop, held at the Shark Club in Canton, OH, the weekend of March 20-21, 2004, saw 28 fine regional players vie for top honors. The Shark Club, though unfamiliar to hosting tournaments of this nature, was accommodating. Tour director Alice Rim commented, “The room was great. It was a really, really nice upscale room with good food and a nice ambience.”
Abbink had few problems skating through the field. She served Kelly Pendleton her first loss when they were in the final four players in the winners’ bracket, and then she went on to best Betsey Sundholm 7-3 in the hot seat match. Pendleton fought her way into the semifinal match against Sundholm and defeated her 7-3 for the chance to score revenge against Abbink. However, in the extended race to 9 that was the final match, Abbink held true to her excellent play throughout the weekend and bested Pendleton 9-7.Results:1st Rachael Abbink $4002nd Kelly Pendleton $2503rd Betsy Sundholm $1704th Sheri Cole $1205th Dawn Fox, Gail Grecar $807th Julie Melman, Vicki Paski $509th Linda Wirgau, Alice Rim, Danielle Shanteau, Lisa Blaylock $35Visit InsidePOOL for the latest in the sport of billiards and pool.
