Baraks Bags the Viking Tour
Viking Cue Open 9-Ball Tour / Galesburg, IL
By Rick Davis
The Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour swung into Billiards On Main in Galesburg, IL, where a 46-player field fought it out over the March 10-11 weekend. After a great event, Midest billiard Jamie Baraks came out on top, going undefeated to claim the tour stop.
Fighting through the field on the winners’ side, Baraks met Jon Kucharo in the hot seat match where every rack grinded along until finally Baraks took advantage at double-hill to claim the hot seat.
On the one-loss side Josh Johnson had his hands full with Liz Lovely, a 14-year-old who had previously won the Junior Nationals. Johnson relied on his experience and was able to dismiss Lovely 7-1 while nearby tournament director Shawn Putnam eliminated Brad Ragon 7-2. With the event winding down everyone was in high gear, and the quarterfinals blew past as Putnam knocked out Johnson 7-3. In the semifinals Kucharo defeated Putnam, earning his chance at a rematch.
With another grinder match unfolding and the true double-elimination format looming, it looked to be anyone’s game as the score reached double-hill, but Baraks managed to regain control again, swiping the double-hill win away from Kucharo to claim the event.
Results:
1st Jamie Baraks
2nd Jon Kucharo
3rd Shawn Putnam
4th Josh Johnson
5th Brad Ragon
