Basavich Working Overtime on the Blaze 9-Ball Tourby Matthew PingorParsippany, NJ - Danny Basavich had another night of hard work that paid off, as the Blaze 9-Ball Tour dropped into Comet Billiards of Parsippany, NJ, on February 26. With a total purse of $2,700, some 38 players turned out for the one-night event. After defeating Joe Long 7-1, Basavich moved to the decisive hot seat match. There he faced Greg Antonakos. Not much time went by before Basavich’s face lit up, signifying that he won the match 7-1 and could now rest easy.
Whittling down the player field, the quarterfinals saw Mike Davis play Oscar Bonilla. This was the beginning of Bonilla’s march to the finals. Following 13 games, Bonilla won the match 7-5. In the semifinals, Bonilla met Antonakos. Anyone watching could tell how badly Bonilla wanted to win. They could tell, because he was winning all throughout the match. Advancing to the finals, Bonilla defeated Antonakos 7-4. Now in the finals, Bonilla was ecstatic. He gave Basavich quite the stir as well. Taking the match as far as possible, Bonilla and Basavich reached hill-hill. Basavich did not want to lose and Bonilla really wanted to win. So if you weigh those, based on ambition, then the outcome would yield Basavich as winner. Those calculations are right, and that is exactly what happened. Basavich did not want to lose and he didn’t. Wining 9-8 Basavich advanced his record and placed first once again.Results:1st Dan Basavich2nd Oscar Bonilla3rd Greg Antanakos4th Mike Davis5th Shaun WilkeBilly Kirshner7th Jason MichasDennis Spears9th Eddie AbrahamJoe LongRob HartEddie Vasquez Visit Inside POOL Magazine for the latest news from the Blaze 9 Ball Tour.
