Bell Captures Women’s 9-Ball Event at Windy City Open Tom Martin, InsidePOOL MagazinePam Bell has captured the Windy City Open Women’s 9-Ball event, defeating Amy Latzko 7-5. Both players battled fiercely, with Bell capitalizing on some early mistakes to jump to a 3-0 and 4-2 lead, only to see her opponent climb back to tie the set at 5-5. Bell won the next game to go on the hill but gave Latzko life with a missed 6 ball. Latzko looked to be out but watched in shock as the cueball floated into the corner after a rare error on an easy 8. Debbie Wilson placed third, with Linda Cruz taking the fourth spot.
The men’ 9-ball tournament is ongoing, and after the smoke cleared on Friday night, only 5 players remain. Ike Runnels sent Mark Pratico to the one-loss bracket in a come-from-behind victory, while on the next table Chad Vilmont punished John Binion in a 7-0 display of wonderful pool, only to lose in the next round to Tom McClusky, who earlier suffered a loss at the hands of Bowman. Meanwhile, Donny Branson resigned Mark Dextater to a 7-8th finish.Saturday morning’s card has Bowman and Runnels playing for the hot seat, with McClusky waiting in the wings for the winner of the match between Branson and Pratico.The open and women’s 8-ball tournaments are underway, with no upsets through the first two rounds of the race-to-five events.
