Bell Undefeated in NEWT Openerby InsidePOOL Staff Pam Bell, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, went undefeated to capture NEWT’s first event of the year at Corner Billiards in Manhattan, NY. Pam took home first place money and a WPBA Qualifier for the Peoria event for her efforts. Bell scored wins over Caroline Pao, Doreen Verna, and Jennifer Barretta on Saturday and then posted a win over Karen Armstrong on Sunday for the hot seat. Karen battled for the right to play Pam again but lost in a hill-hill match to Barretta on Sunday. Barretta posted wins over Liz Schwartzreich and Kathy Lawless before being sent to the “B” side of the chart by Bell. On Sunday, Baretta won her first three matches against Schwartzreich again, as well as Sueyen Rhee and Karen Armstrong, to match up with Bell again in the finals.
Bell jumped out to a 3-0 lead and looked like she was going to cruise from there, but Baretta caught a gear and won the next found racks to go ahead 4-3. Some tough leaves and safety play in the following racks had Baretta cooling off in her seat, as she only won one more game before Bell won the finals 9-5. 1st Qualifier - Pam Bell2nd Jennifer Barretta3rd Karen Armstrong4th Sueyen Rhee5/6th Kathleen Lawless, Liz Schwartzreich
