Billbrey Does it AgainSeminole Florida Pro Tour / Hollywood, FLby Rick DavisBilliards player Will Billbrey stormed through the top 16 to go undefeated and claim first place at the last regular tour stop on the Seminole Florida Pro Tour the weekend of November 11-12.Sunday’s early winners’-side matches were all close. Tour regular Neil Fujiwara squeaked past Hall of Famer Earl Strickland 8-7, while Billbrey bested Joey Bonds by the same margin. The other side of the winners’ bracket saw “Rocket” Rodney Morris slip past Donnie Mills 8-6, as Derek Leonard did the same to Dennis Hatch. Fujiwara faced off against Billbrey, and again the outcome was double-hill with Billbrey slipping past again to reach the hot seat match. Morris shut out Leonard nearby 8-0 to reach the hot seat match as well.
On the one-loss side things grinded along with nearly 11 hours of play. Starting things off, recent tour stop winner Steve Moore smoked Dave Grossman 8-1, while Dave Broxson did nearly as well, eliminating Jason Klatt 8-2. Tony Roberto came out from a double-hill win against Brian Davalos, and Chris Bartram bested Richard Broumpton 8-4.The next round offered several upsets as Strickland was eliminated by Roberto, while Moore and Hatch were also shown the door through defeats by Mills and Bartram, respectively. Broxson was the only one not to disappoint, as he slaughtered Bonds 8-2. Broxson stayed strong, knocking out Roberto and Leonard each 8-6 to reach the quarterfinals. Bartram decided to meet him there, and wins over Mills and Fujiwara, both 8-7, did just that. After all the excitement the show was quick with Broxson slicing through Bartram 8-2.Back on the winners’ side, Billbrey and Morris met in the hot seat match, but Billbrey, who won the last event and took second in the one prior, took control and strolled past 8-2 to reach the finals. Morris then headed west to face Broxson, who finished the one-two punch and knocked him out 8-5. Broxson reached the finals to face Billbrey, and after almost two hours of play, Billbrey took control to win the match 9-6 for his second straight tour win.Only the State Championships remain for this year’s tour, and they will be held December 16-18 and will offer an impressive $15,000-added prize fund.Results:1st Will Billbrey $35002nd Dave Broxson $20003rd Rodney Morris $15004th Chris Bartram $12005th Neil Fujiwara $900Derek Leonard7th Donnie Mills $600Tony Roberto9th Steve Moore $450Dennis HatchEarl StricklandJoey Bonds13th Dave Grossman $300Richard BroumptonBrian DavalosJason Klatt
