Taking place at Comet Billiards in Parsippany, NJ, a 51-player field turned out for the October 28-29 action.Sunday unfolded with the top eight fighting for the finals. On the winners’ side McCreesh bested tour promoter Mike Zuglan 9-5, while Sean Morgan did the same to Chris Lynch 9-6. The hot seat match between McCreesh and Morgan stayed close until the end, where a quick surge gave McCreesh the 9-7 win and ushered him into the finals.
On the one-loss side the day started with Frankie Hernandez eliminating top WPBA pro Karen Corr double-hill, as Ed Abraham squeaked by Dan Heidrich 9-7. As Zuglan and Lynch came from the winners’ side, Hernandez and Abraham continued to play well, with Hernandez eliminating Zuglan 9-5 and Abraham knocking out Lynch 9-3. In the quarterfinals Abraham matched up against Hernandez, who brushed him away 9-5 then slipped past Morgan double-hill to reach the finals after four one-loss side wins. The finals were a true double-elimination format, and after Hernandez defeated McCreesh 9-7 in the first set it looked like anyone’s game. With the last set underway neither player gave up ground with the match going double-hill before McCreesh proved why he was on the winners’ side all day and finished off Hernandez 9-8.
