Bowman Snaps Off Billiards on Main
The twenty-fourth stop of the 2006/2007 McDermott All American Tour, produced by the American CueSports Alliance (ACS), was hosted by owner Mark Hammerl at Billiards on Main, in Galesburg, Illinois, on March 3, and featured a $500 added purse with 31 players. The event included a double-elimination 9-ball format on Valley bar boxes, and Fred Fechter of Peoria, IL, ran undefeated to the finals. In the hot-seat match, Fechter – rated a “4” on a regional handicap system used – outmaneuvered Rich Bideaux of Moline, IL, rated a “5”, 4-0.
Earlier in the A-bracket semi-finals, Fred had slipped by John Traff (Galesburg, IL) [4] 4-3, while Rich Bideaux out pointed Josh Johnson (Bettendorf, IA) [6] 5-4. On the B-side, Jesse Bowman (E. Moline, IL) [6} was on a tear after losing to Josh Johnson in the first round. He marched through the B-side bracket to the event finals including wins in the quarterfinals over Traff 6-0, in the semifinals over Johnson 6-1 and the B-side finals over Bideaux 6-3. Bowman had to defeat Fred Fechter two sets for the title, and this appeared to be easy in the first set, with Jesse scoring a 6-0 whitewash; but Fechter put up a good fight in set #2, only to have Bowman beat him on the hill 6-3 for an exciting tourney victory!
By virtue of Jesse Bowman having met his quota from previous Tour wins and 2nd-place Fred Fechter being the highest-finishing ACS member, Fred qualified for a free 9-ball singles entry into the 2007 ACS Nationals in Las Vegas – courtesy of the ACS. The ACS wishes to thank sponsors McDermott Handcrafted Cues, Silver Cup Chalk, Billiard Wholesalers and Pro Series Cases for their support in donating “Value-In-Kind” product for this and all stops on the McDermott All American Tour. Sponsorship opportunities are still available by contacting the ACS.
Saturday, March 24, will feature a McDermott All American Tour stop at Greenfields Pool & Sports Bar in Lakewood, CO, hosting a $1,000 added 8-ball stop (for onsite entry details contact Todd Grosvenor at 303/989-9820). Information, entry details and schedules for the 2006/2007 McDermott All American Tour are available at www.americancuesports.org.
