Brits and Qualifiers Flourishing at IPT Billiard TournamentRobert McKenna of the UK is leading his group, having just won his third match out of four against his best friend, Scotland’s Patrick Holtz, 8-3. “I’m doing pretty good. A little bit of a sour note there with that victory, because it was my best buddy, my roommate. The winner probably advanced, and Patrick now has to try to win his last one to get through. So not a great deal of pleasure in that. I’m playing okay, but there is still a lot of work to be done to feel comfortable on these tables because we come from an English eight-ball background.“The breaks are up and down, that’s a department we have to put a lot of work in and try to get a little more comfortable and get some more knowledge. These guys, it took them twenty or thirty years to learn it, so we can’t expect to do it in a strawberry season.”Discuss the IPT World Open 8-Ball ChampionshipVisit the IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship Image Gallery
Many of the Europeans are making an impression. Nick Van den Berg scored an 8-1 win over Australia’s Ben Nunan. In his group, he and Francisco Bustamante are undefeated for the day so far. Dutchman Rico Diks won his third match against Ronnie Wiseman 8-2, while Brit Raj Hundal wasted Yannick Beaufils 8-1 and Imran Majid dealt Frankie Hernandez his fourth loss 8-4.Those rooting for the home team won’t be disappointed, either. Three qualifier winners from the US just won their fourth-round matches. Jason Kirkwood bested Serbia’s Sandor Tot in a hill-hill battle, as did Steve Moore over Philip Harrison from England. Both of them are set to advance to Wednesday’s matches. David Matlock, though he won his match against Dimitri Jungo hill-hill, will most likely need to win his last match to advance. Mike Davis went up against Billy Incardona in the fourth round and pretty much cemented his advancement with an 8-2 win. “I played okay, maybe fairly good,” said Davis modestly, “but Billy just played a bad match. It’s surprising because the match before he played real good against Breedlove, he just didn’t make balls on the break, but he went hill-hill with him. This match maybe he spent too long in the break room, because he only had like five minutes to hit balls and missed a lot of shots. I’m three and one, so three should be good enough to get through.”Round 2 GROUP 41GROUP 42GROUP 43GROUP 44GROUP 45GROUP 46GROUP 47GROUP 48GROUP 49GROUP 50GROUP 51GROUP 52GROUP 53GROUP 54GROUP 55GROUP 56GROUP 57GROUP 58GROUP 59GROUP 60K.
