Chen and Yi Unscathed at Fast Eddie’s Billiard TournamentFast Eddie’s Olhausen 9-Ball Tour / Beaumont, TXby Rick DavisThe ninth stop of the Fast Eddie’s Olhausen 9-Ball Tour took place at Fast Eddie’s Billiards in Beaumont, TX, where 12 women and 35 men entered the action the weekend of September 16-17. In the open division, frequent top finisher Jui Lung Chen went through undefeated, while Kyu Yi claimed her third tour win on the women’s side. The open division had many close matches in store, as well as a small family fiasco. The hot seat match shaped up with Steve Lenz and Chen, who defeated Lenz 9-7. On the one-loss side, a lot of action still remained. James Davis Sr. eliminated John Weeks, while James Davis Jr. ousted Pat Fox, setting the stage for a small family affair. The father-and-son match between the Davises went the distance, but at the double-hill game, Davis Jr. hung a 9 ball to give his father the match. From there, Davis Sr. moved on to face Lenz, and once he took the lead he held on, eliminating Lenz 7-5. After a long and emotional road for Davis Sr., he finally faced Chen in the finals, but Chen stomped on him 9-3 for an anticlimactic ending to the event.
The ladies’ event was slightly briefer but no less exciting. Kyu Yi defeated Amanda Lampert 7-5 in the hot seat match, giving both players some time for the field to catch up. On the one-loss side, Jennifer Kraver eliminated Belinda Lee 5-2, while Christina de la Garza knocked out Dianna Cardona 5-3. De la Garza continued to rack up victims, defeating Kraver 5-3, although that was her limit as she fell double-hill to Lampert, who was eager for a rematch in the finals. Yi and Lampert met once more for the evening’s final match, and once more Yi defeated Lampert with a solid 7-5 score.Open Results:1st Jui Lung Chen2nd James Davis Sr.3rd Steve Lenz4th James Davis Jr.5th Pat FoxJohn Weeks7th Ray BacaTommy SandersWomen’s Results:1st Kyu Yi2nd Amanda Lampert3rd Christina de Lagarza
