Corr and Robles Take Top Honors at the BCA Open 9-Ball Championships By InsidePOOL StaffKaren Corr and Tony Robles were victorious in the final matches of the BCA Open 9-Ball Championships, held at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. This is Corr’s third consecutive win at this event, while Robles was runner-up in this event in 2002.Corr won the lag and went on to take the first rack. From there, Fisher and Corr, ranked numbers one and two by the Women’s Professional Billiard Association, respectively, traded games until the score reached 4-3 Corr. Fisher broke and played a safe on the 2, but Corr had a shot and banked it straight back, going on to run out. A miss on the 5 ball in the following rack by Corr saw Fisher pull back to within a game at 5-4 Corr, but when Fisher came up dry on her next break, Corr ran out. “The Irish Invader” made three balls on her last break, played superb position on the 3, and cleared the table for the 7-4 win.
The match between Robles and Sambajon was skewed from the start. Robles took a 4-0 lead after several key errors by Sambajon. A scratch by Robles put Sambajon on the board 4-1, and then the players traded run-outs to bring the score to 5-2. Robles played an excellent cut-bank to get on the hill 6-2, and the last rack saw the players trade innings several times. He got out of line on the 8 and missed, but surprisingly Sambajon missed the 8 and scratched. After Robles pocketed the 8 and got perfect position on the 9, Sambajon threw his towel onto the table, signifying his concession of the 7-2 final score.Women’s Results:1st Karen Corr $15,0002nd Allison Fisher $7,5003rd Julie Kelly $4,8004th Hsin Huang $3,7005th Monica Webb, Vivian Villareal $3,0007th Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news in the sport of billiards and pool.
