Davis Gets up and Goes in Greenvilleby InsidePOOL Staff Former Reno Open champion and UPA Rookie of the Year, Mike Davis lambasted a 38-player field at the Greenville Open to take first place. The event was held on May 21-22 in conjunction with the J. Pechauer Southeast Open 9-Ball Tour and was their second stop of the 2005-2006 season. on Cue Sports Bar & Billiards hosted the event and generously added $1,000 to the total prize fund. Davis’s play was consistent throughout the two-day event, and ultimately he ended up in the hot seat match facing former U.S. Open champion Tommy “TK” Kennedy. He defeated the tour director in a thrilling hill-hill match, sending him to the one-loss side. Charlie Brinson came through the one-loss side to face Sparky Farrell in the quarterfinals and best him 9-8 to reach the semis. There he faced a motivated Kennedy, who soundly defeated him 9-2 in order to force a rematch against Davis in the finals. In the extended single-elimination race, Davis could do no wrong, and it wasn’t long before he swept the match 11-4.
