Notable upsets included Ewa Laurance being defeated by Hsin Huang 9-5, Michigan newcomer Julie Melman defeating Gail Grecar 9-7, Sarah Ellerby was ousting by Ellen Van Buren, and reigning world and national champion Young Kim being eliminated by Florida’s Debbie Schjodt.Still undefeated are defending champion Allison Fisher, mainland China’s first ever US competitor Pan Xiaoting, Texas Tornado Vivian Villarreal, “Jumpin’” Janet Atwell, Kelly Fisher, Jennifer Chen, Dawn Hopkins, the Black Widow Jeanette Lee, Atlanta’s Monica Webb, California’s Darlene Stinson, Helena Thornfeldt, Kim Shaw, junior national champion Anna Kostanian, Val Finnie, Karen Corr, and Romana Dokovic.
