Deciding Round Will Affect the USThere are three German players out of four who have not lost a match today. Ralf Souquet defeated Dutchman Alex Lely 8-5, Oliver Ortmann won 8-3 over Tony Drago, and Thomas Engert dealt Dennis Orcollo his second loss of the day 8-3. Looking rather tired, Engert commented, “Today was good—wasn’t in the beginning, very hard for me, because I know the German guy—he is a good friend of mine, and I know that he is playing very slow and I am a rhythm player, because I play straight pool, and because he plays slow I can’t get a rhythm like normal. But it was a tough match, I won eight-five. Then I did really good—I played Jose Parica and won eight-two, ran five racks.IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship ForumsVisit the IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship Image Gallery“I played a qualification tournament before in Germany, and it was very tough. I know the rules and how to play, but there are so many good players here you never know what’s happening. In the first one Thorsten won and Manalo second, and now Thorsten lost in the first round and Manalo in the second. There are so many good players you never know what’s happening. But it’s a very big thing that I get the tour card for 2007 and looking over the prize money list, I am in.”
While Charlie Williams has yet to record a loss yet today, he will meet Rodney Morris, who has only two wins so far, in the fifth round. Many of the other Americans are struggling: Jason Miller has no wins, Charlie Bryant has one, Danny Harriman has one, Jason Kirkwood has two, Larry Nevel has one, Corey Deuel has two, and Nick Varner has no wins. Most of the players with two wins will need to win their third to advance, and the players with one will need the stars to align correctly in order for them to see another day.Still cruising through the event as the only unscathed player, Francisco Bustamante just brought his event record to 17-0 after an 8-1 drubbing of Marko Lohtander. Efren Reyes won his third match of the day by handing Rodney Morris his second loss 8-3, and Alex Pagulayan scored his third win as well, handing Larry Nevel an 8-2 loss. Antonio Lining and Danny Harriman had a bit of controversy within their match, with Lining ending up winning 8-4. Harriman explained, “The referee told me I was on two [fouls], and while I was down shooting the shot, just as I was pulling the trigger—I was just coming back to kick at it and he [Lining] was like,” Harriman made a sound to imitate Tagalog. “Antonio didn’t think he had called it. I had no chance anyway, it wasn’t like he was trying to shark me—he just wanted to make sure. It was eight to four, he played perfect.“They broke real tough for me against Lining—things were tied up in all kinds of spots. Then I had a ball skid on me too. I know I didn’t miss it as far, when I hit it, it kinda spun. It wasn’t a full-blown skid … What it was, was I was shooting right near the rack area where all the divots are, and I think I might have been shooting out of one of the divots—the fifteen was in one of the Sardo holes. I’m sure I was shooting right in the rack area, and when I looked at it afterwards, I was like, oh no, when you shoot out of one of those you need to be accurate and go ahead and crisp it, because if you don’t you’re really risking the ball skidding. If it’s in one of those holes, it makes the shot real hard, or if you gotta play tight position it’s still tricky. I like the Sardo Rack, believe me, but I don’t like shooting from that area. It’s got good and bad points, that’s for sure.”Quick LinksPlayer StatsPrize Money Breakdown Round 4 GROUP 76D. AlcaideM. HillD. AppletonN. FeijenJ. KirkwoodQ. HannGROUP 77R. AlcanoL. NevelA.
