Ortmann, a two-time winner of the International Challenge of Champions and a WPA 9-Ball champion, stated, “I was through anyway after winning three matches before, so I was quite confident, and he wasn’t really that tough too beat, so it was kind of like practice for me. So I tried a different shaft and tried to do something new with position. Player of the Decade in the 1990s, Johnny Archer bested Larry Schwartz 8-3, making his record 3-0 for the day so far. Archer stated, “I played pretty good—I played better than the one before. I made one mistake, I think. Breaking the balls better—tables are breaking tough, so you gotta hit the balls good. That makes the game a little tougher, because there are more balls on the table. Each game means more and more because it’s so hard to get something on the break.“I think that one made me through to advance to tomorrow, but I still need to take the next one to make sure I keep my win percentage up,” Archer added. “Each match means a lot no matter where you’re at, and that’s what I like about it.”Earl Strickland brought his record to 2-1 for the day with an 8-3 victory over Chris Orme, while Thorsten Hohmann did the same by notching an 8-5 win over John Wims. Marlon Manalo of the Philippines has a perfect 4-0 record for the day by virtue of his 8-3 victory over Joe Minici in the fourth round.So far in the fourth round, no ladies have won. Monica Webb came the closest against Raj Hundal but still lost 8-3. Mary Kenniston managed two racks in her match with Gabe Owen. Francisco Bustamante dominated his match against Gerda Hofstatter to win 8-1, while Jackie Broadhurst lost by the same score to Alex Lely of Holland.
