Double "J" Doubles Up on Mason To Earn VictoryBy InsidePOOL StaffA talented field of 72 players converged on Fast Eddie's in the piney wooded area of Beaumont, TX, on March 12-13 to battle for the Fast Eddie's Olhausen 9-Ball Tour victory. Current points leader Javier Franco looked to extend his lead, but Jeremy "Double J" Jones had other ideas.Franco, who is from Houston, started his tourney off with a win over Dale Briones but fell to Al Mason in the second round. While Franco started his winning streak in the one-loss side, Jones and Mason dominated the winners' bracket. Jones, the 2003 U.S. Open champion, breezed through the bracket to meet Mason in the hot seat match. Mason, who surprised many people with his performance, stayed right with Jones, reaching the hill first with an 8-7 lead. But Jones ran out the next rack to put the match at hill-hill. In the decisive game, it looked as though Jones would be heading to the finals, as he only had two balls left on the table. While he was lining up the 8, though, his stick accidentally touched the cue ball, and he called a foul on himself. Jones conceded the match and headed to the semifinals to face Franco.Jones didn't have an easy task against Franco, who had won eight straight matches to reach the semifinals. But Jones was determined to earn another shot at Mason in the finals, and he pulled out the win to do so. Jones and Mason faced off again, and this time, Jones made sure that he didn't make any mistakes. In the first set of the double-elimination finals, Jones and Mason battled almost down to the wire, but in the end, Jones came out with a 9-7 win. In the second set, with the scored tied up at 3 apiece, Jones rallied and took the final six games to earn the victory 9-3.
