Eight Players Remain in Brunswick Professional Players Championship By InsidePOOL StaffThe field has whittled down to the final eight players at the Brunswick Professional Players Championship at Allen Hopkins’ 12th Annual Super Billiards Expo. The event, which will conclude on Sunday, March 28, 2004, brought 64 of the best pro players in the world to compete for the $10,000 first-place prize.Frankie Hernandez, who was responsible for sending InsidePOOL Magazine’s 2003 Player of the Year, Johnny Archer, to the one-loss side, was sent there himself after his match with former U.S. champion Ralf Souquet when the German dealt him a 10-3 decision. There, Hernandez met Italy’s Fabio Petroni, who wasted no time in ousting him 10-4. Souquet will meet Jose Garcia in one of the two winners’-bracket matches on Saturday evening.
Room owner Chris Szuter is hanging tough, having sent tough players such as Bob Maidhof, Tony Crosby, and current U.S. Open champion Jeremy Jones over to the west side of the chart. He will match up with Jose Parica in the other winners’-bracket match. Parica buzzed through the chart, dealing Martin Rimlinger, Teddy Garrahan, Jimmy Reid, and Tony Robles losses.Still fighting for life in the one-loss side, Canada champion Luc Salvas will play the winner of the match between Tommy “TK” Kennedy and Jeremy Jones on Saturday evening. Petroni will meet Johnny Archer in the other one-loss side match. After Saturday's matches, there will be four players remaining. The final match is set to start at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.Visit InsidePOOL for the latest in the sport of billiards and pool.
