U.S. Amateur tournament winner James "Shorty" Henson won his match against Rodney Strickland 11-6, while the runner up in that same event, Scott Tollefson, won his first match against Tommy Lipps 11-6. Mark Gregory of Atlanta, GA, upset Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour Champion Larry Nevel 11-7. Buddy Chilton defeated Mike Mather 11-3, and Karl Sloezen won his match against Bill Handry 11-5.Mark Gregory recently took third place in the Legends of Straight Pool and one-Pocket. After his match with Nevel, Mark Gregory said, "I knew I had to play well. He's a great player. I think he took himself out of the match when I got a big lead where he's a good enough player to come back at any time."
Jimmy Reid, a past U.S. Open champion, forfeited his match against Thomas Techner in the 9 p.m. matches, and George SanSouci delivered a 11-7 defeat to Tommy "TK" Kennedy, another past U.S. Open champ. In the final round of matches at 11 p.m., Filipino master Rodolfo Luat delivered Duke Weaver an 11-3 defeat. His compatriot, Santos Sambajon, won his match against Timmy Hall by the same 11-3 score.
