Run by owner RH Gilmer, known as "The Professor," the event later than originally planned because a rainstorm delayed Hager, who came from San Antonio, TX.  However, the event kicked off at approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday evening.  Starting at $50 a man, Basavich was the first to fall by the wayside, losing 25 straight games.  Merchant and Pickle soon joined him, leaving only four players in the running for the $7,000 first-place prize. In 56 games, there was less than a $200 difference among the players' holdings.  Switching to $500 per game, Macias was the next to fall.  After being down to his final $100 and then working his way back to $1,000, Hager was eliminated.  And finally, after a total of 86 games and 12 hours, Farrell, a room owner in New Orleans, was the final man standing.Gilmer reported that what was most pleasing to him was the fact that all of the players were courteous, professional, and considerate to the extreme.  He said, "In twelve hours, there was never a cross word between any of them."  Southern Billiards was packed for this event, and people even brought in lawn chairs to sit and watch the action either live or on one of the televisions.  "It's something that we're definitely going to do again," affirmed Gilmer.Results:1st Jamie Farrell $7,0002nd Jonathan Pinegar $2,5003rd John Hager $1,000 Visit InsidePOOL for the latest from the sport of billiards and pool.
