Field Narrowing at Capital City ClassicBy InsidePOOL StaffThe field is narrowing at the Capital City Classic, which began yesterday and is being held at the lovely Adam's Mark Hotel in Philadelphia, PA.  only 16 players remain in the winners' bracket, with 24 in the one-loss side.In the first round, Corey Harper, a young player from the Los Angeles area, defeated Rodney "The Rocket" Morris in an incredible hill-hill match.  He then went on to defeat Ron Justice 10-3 and will meet "Machine Gun" Luc Salvas tomorrow at 7 p.m.  Harper has really put in his time on the tables improving his game, and it is nice to see that it is paying off.  He recently married his long-time girlfriend and plays in all of the pro tournaments that he can.
Another California player, John Schmidt (pictured), defeated Bob Deturk 10-0 and then knocked Jose Parica into the "B" side of the chart 10-8.  Schmidt recently won the biannual Reno Open at the Sands Regency Hotel and Casino in Reno, NV, last June, defeating Alex Pagulayan in the finals.  He will face Mike Davis, the New Englander with the devastating break, at 7 p.m.The "Earthquake," Keith McCready, is back in action in the City of Brotherly Love, defeating Billy Kirschner 10-6 in the first round and losing to Bill Blanda in the second in a tight hill-hill match.  In between matches, McCready seems to have no problem finding something to do ...Korean sensation and runner-up to Efren Reyes in the Mid-Atlantic 9-Ball Open, Young Hwa Jeong won his first match against excellent Pennsylvania player Ryan McCreesh and then was defeated by Jose Garcia in a 10-9 nailbiter.Other notable names in the one-loss side are Shawn Putnam, Viking Cue 9-Ball Tour's Player of the Year; Danny "Kid Delicious" Basavich; Robb Saez; Jarrod Clowery; and Danny Harriman. The one-loss side matches begin Friday at 1 p.m., while the winners' bracket matches will begin tomorrow at 7 p.m.  Visit InsidePOOL for the latest in the sport of billiards and pool.
