Final Eight Returning Sunday at IPT Qualifier DThe second of two grueling days at the International Pool Tour’s fourth qualification event has finished, with only four players in each bracket advancing to Sunday’s matches. George Breedlove won matches against Bellflower runner-up Eric Hjorliefson and Gary Abood, and he will meet Antonio Lining, who defeated Dan Wallace and UK’s Karl Boyes. Warren Kiamco of the Philippines bested Richard Molineiro and Imran Majid and will play Furuta Kazuo, who won matches over Goh Takami and Thomas Engert of Germany. In the one-loss side, many fine players were eliminated, but the ones who remain must give it all they’ve got on Sunday. Santos Sambajon Jr. eliminated fellow countryman Rodolfo Luat 10-8, then went on to play Gary Abood, which is still in progress. Goh Takami ousted Germany’s Kevin Becker 10-7 but was defeated by Karl Boyes of the UK 10-4. Florida’s Robb Saez won both of his last matches this evening, first against Eric Hjorliefson 10-5 and then Imran Majid 10-6. And Ramil Gallego of the Philippines bested first Dan Wallace 10-6 and then Thomas Engert 10-7. Tomorrow, Boyes will play the winner of the Sambajon/Abood match, while Saez will meet Gallego.Visit the IPT Qualifier D Image Gallery
Action man Cliff Joyner earned a whopping $5,000 bonus by running seven racks consecutively in competition, while nine players earned the more modest bonus of $500 by making the 8 ball on the break—two players did it twice!Mike “The Mouth” Sigel won five out of six challenge matches today, besting Perry Foster, Andy Barnett, Mark Trainer, Louis Pannullo, and Tony Mougey. The only player to defeat the Hall of Famer was Gary Sanossian, who won the match 8-3.It snowed all day Saturday, so it is difficult to speculate on how many spectators will brave the weather to attend the matches Sunday.Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news in the sport of billiards and pool.
