The event, held at the Viejas Casino in Alpine, CA, will end today.In the first round of the new single-elimination final 16 format, See the tournament chartIn other action, Melissa Herndon was ahead of Dawn Hopkins for most of their match but couldn’t hold on after being tied double-hill and lost in a 2 hour, 16 minute marathon. Gerda Hofstatter started strong against defending champion Kelly Fisher 3-0, but Fisher fought back to tie the match at 5 before moving past “G-Force” to bring it to 8-5. Hofstatter fought back to force a hill-hill match that eventually went in favor of Fisher 9-8.
The quarterfinal matches began at 10 p.m. and featured four matches. The winners of these four will play on Sunday at ESPN. The round consisted mostly of wipeouts, with Allison Fisher defeating Hopkins 9-3, Kelly Fisher eliminating Lee 9-4, and Sarah Ellerby ousting Alice Rim 9-3. Only the Barretta-Corr match went down to the wire. They were tied at 2 and were neck and neck until Corr pulled ahead to a 9-7 victory.
