Final Six Players to Return Sunday for IPT CardsIn the winners’-bracket afternoon matches, Brian Groce bested Danny Green 10-2, and Richard Broumpton dealt Frankie Hernandez his first loss 10-4. Clent McCullough played and won his hill-hill match against Karl Boyes, and Shane Van Boening defeated Johnny Stone 10-7. Van Boening won the first two racks, but then Stone turned around and took the next three. The following went to Van Boening, but Stone took a 7-3 lead and looked pretty strong. At that point, Van Boening scored the next rack and ran six and out, earning the $5,0000 bonus.In the afternoon one-loss side matches, Vilmos Foldes defeated Dave Hemmah 10-6, and Jean-Claude Bernatchez sent Dan Wallace packing 10-4. Lee Heuwagen eliminated Kenichi Uchigaki 10-8, and Cliff Joyner and George Breedlove fought to the hill, with Breedlove ending up the winner.In the winners’-side matches, Clent McCullough suffered his first loss to Shane Van Boening, who swept the match 10-3. In the final matches in the left side, George Breedlove won his match against Danny Green 10-8 but then fell to Frankie Hernandez 10-7. Hernandez had just eliminated Lee Heuwagen 10-8. Vilmos Foldes bested Karl Boyes 10-5, while Johnny Stone sent Jean-Claude Bernatchez packing 10-6. The last match of the evening, between Foldes and Stone, went hill-hill. Stone missed his penultimate stripe, and Foldes was able to clear for his 10-9 victory.One more player qualified for free entry fees into the remaining three IPT qualifiers. Dan Wallace and Dave “Big Wave” Hemmah were the third set of two names chosen to match up with Mike Sigel simultaneously in a race to 8. Hemmah faltered and didn’t recover, falling to the Hall of Famer 8-5. Wallace, though, was able to use this to his advantage and swept across the finish line 8-2.Two more hapless players were picked at random on Saturday, but Kevin Trudeau announced that if Mike Sigel was able to win both matches, he would earn a $10,000 bonus. With this incentive and all the play he has put in today, Sigel first bested Maryland’s Danny Green 8-5 while seesawing to a hill-hill battle with Karl Boyes. Sigel scratched on the last break, but Boyes, while attempting a breakout shot on the 8, got snookered and left the table wide open.
