Finals Set at BCA Openby InsidePOOL StaffFriday night’s semifinal matches left but four players total in the BCA Open 9-Ball Championships, being held at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. Saturday’s final matches will be at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Two former world 9-ball champions matched up in the men’s semifinal when Thorsten “The Hitman” Hohmann and Mika “Iceman” Immonen met on the featured Connelly table. Hohmann, who hails from Germany, quickly took the advantage after a missed 2 ball by Immonen and did not relinquish it. only a couple more mistakes on the part of the Finn put Hohmann on the hill in the shortened race to 7, and the last rack saw a failed safety attempt by Immonen seal the deal as Hohmann won the match 7-3. Hohmann will play Johnny Archer in Saturday’s final match for $15,000 at 3 p.m.
Karen Corr is well on her way to defending her title at this event for the fourth year in a row. She met Ewa “The Striking Viking” Laurance in the ladies’ semifinal match and capitalized on a couple of errors on her opponent’s side to take the lead from the beginning. Though Laurance played well and graciously, it was apparent that Corr has this event dialed in, and it wasn’t long before “The Irish Invader” took the match 7-1. Corr meets Allison Fisher on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the final match.
