Fisher Takes Down WPBA National 9-Ball Championshipby InsidePOOL StaffBilliard player Allison Fisher went undefeated to triumph over the 64-player field at the Cuetec Cues Women's Professional Billiards Association (WPBA) National 9-Ball Championship, held this past week at the Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City, OR.Fisher did her sponsor proud, first delivering a tough 9-7 defeat to most improved player Xiaoting Pan and then topping that with a 9-0 whitewash of Belinda Calhoun, who was recently inducted into the WPBA’s Hall of Fame. Kim Jones, Megan Minerich, and Gerda Hofstatter could only amass a combined total of four racks against “The Duchess of Doom” in her next three matches.
Ga Young Kim was doing her best in the other bracket, easily demolishing opponents such as Morgan Steinman, the recent winner of the J. Pechauer NorthEast Women’s Tour stop, 9-1; Darlene Stinson 9-5; Sarah Rousey 9-2; Sarah Ellerby 9-5; and Val Finnie 9-2. When the event went into single-elimination mode, both ladies were at the top of their game. Kim was faced with Karen “The Irish Ivader” Corr, who put up a good fight but came short 7-5 in the shortened race. Fisher bested fellow countrywoman Kelly Fisher by the same score to meet Kim in the final match. It ended up being a hill-hill nail-biter, but Fisher gained top honors and the $14,000 first-place prize.Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news on the sport of billiards and pool.
