Fitzpatrick Storms Castle Billiards
Tri-State Tour / Rutherford, NJ
by InsidePOOL Staff
Dave Fitzpatrick earned his second Tri-State Tour win this season January 27 at Castle Billiards in Rutherford, NJ. He bested the field of 38, winning 7 matches for the day to take the title.
Fitzpatrick’s first big victory was against Al Lopez, an up-and-coming player. Lopez made a few errors, which Fitzpatrick took full advantage of to win the match 7-4. In doing so, he reached the hot seat match, facing off against Lenny Knapp. Though Knapp fought hard, he ended up taking a trip to the west side of the chart with a 7-3 loss. There he met Mark Mallari, and the two put on a seesaw battle that saw Knapp emerge the 6-4 winner to earn a rematch in the finals. Knapp came out firing against Fitzpatrick, taking a 5-2 lead quickly. His fortunes changed, though, when Fitzpatrick not only tied the score at 5-all but then pulled into the lead. Each player took one more rack before, with the score knotted at 6, Fitzpatrick played an incredible jump shot to win the last rack and the tournament.
