Foldes Finishes With Four WinsVilmos Foldes, who came in third place twice trying to qualify for the IPT when they were having their tour qualification events, triumphed today with a 100% record in his matches today. Foldes was invited to the North American Open 8-Ball Championship when Buddy Hall was unable to make it.In his last match of the day, Foldes met Rodolfo “Boy Samson” Luat, one of the Filipino contingent. The match went double-hill, with Foldes emerging victorious. I hope I qualified,” Foldes joked. “I told myself … maybe I can win two matches, and with good luck I can go through from the group, but I don’t know. I’m here, I’m not nervous, everything’s perfect. It was almost easy.”
Dennis Hatch, who won the Super Billiards Expo professional event last March, is also undefeated, notching wins over Mike Lebron, Ronnie O’Sullivan, and Vincent Facquet. In his last victory, over Facquet, four of his racks were break and run-outs.The American players are going strong in the fourth round: George Breedlove won 8-5 over Jimmy Fusco, Chris Bartram dealt Frank Alvarez an 8-1 loss, John Ditoro and Robb Saez went to the hill before Ditoro won 8-7, and Stan Tourangeau defeated Tony Crosby 8-5.Also, Steve Moore of Atlanta, GA, is still undefeated after besting Paul Potier, Jason Miller, and Tyler Edey. His last match will be against “California Kim” Davenport in the 8 p.m. rounds.Earl Strickland was watching the matches this afternoon and commented, “The tour is great—there is lots of money and there has never been this much prestige.” He went on to add, “My idea of pool would have been more seclusion then this. It reminds me of tennis in the 1800s, but it’s what they have to do right now.
