Gollan Dominates J. Pechauer West Coast Tour Washington Event By Tori Hilty, InsidePOOL staffAn amazing field of 96 players turned out to play in the J. Pechauer West Coast Tour held at Shoreline, WA, the weekend of May 8-9, 2004. The roster was filled with hopefuls vying for prize money, with the total purse at more than $6,500, including the $2,000 kicked in by Pokertropolis.com and the $2,000 added by Dr. Cue Billiards. This tantalizing cash brought out some of the best talent from the region-Brady Gollan and Glenn Atwell, as well as some national names such as Mike Massey and even a handful of ladies. Gollan and Atwell showed well for the locals by making it to the finals. only one could take the top spot though, and Gollan sailed through the tournament undefeated to clinch it.Dr. Cue Billiards is an all-ages room offering a full kitchen and espresso bar and is owned by Jeff Robertson and Mike Jacoby. The room boasts a total of fifteen 9-foot Brunswick tables, and it also has seven televisions to ensure not a minute of a sports game is missed by interested customers. In addition to all of this, there is also a full pro shop and cue repair. The room is spacious and has ample parking, which was definitely needed to accommodate the 96 players and tons of spectators that enjoyed this event.
Gollan and Atwell met early in the tournament on the front side of the chart on a table located beside a high traffic aisle. Atwell was playing some of the best pool in the tournament but lost his concentration because of passing spectators. Taking full advantage, Gollan sent Atwell to the back side of the chart with a 9-4 win.Atwell was fighting his way through the west side when he met Mike Zimmerman in the quarterfinals. Although playing well, Zimmerman could not get out ahead of his opponent. Commanding the entire match, Atwell forced Zimmerman to settle for fourth place after a 9-5 victory.Back on the front side of the chart, world-renowned trick shot artist Massey and Gollan were fighting for the hot seat. A crowd gathered to watch the excellent position play of both with awe, but Gollan led from start to the 9-6 finish. Massey traveled to the back side of the chart to meet with Atwell in the semis. Atwell gained a five-game lead before Massey even got out of his chair. At 5-1, Massey took advantage of poor safety by Atwell and took a couple of racks for himself. However, it was too little, too late, and Atwell dominated the match with a 9-5 victory, sending Massey home with third place. In the finals, Gollan jumped to an 8-2 lead over Atwell, making it look like the final race to 13 was going to be over quickly. But a miscue on the 5 by Gollan let Atwell to the table to do some serious damage. He took the next eight out of ten racks to even the score at 10 apiece. With yet another game under his belt to make it 11-10, Atwell was on his way to a run-out but got stumped by the layout of the table, where all of the balls were at the bottom. After a tough rail shot on the 8, he found himself without good position on the 9 and missed the tough shot into the side. Gollan took advantage of this gift horse to shoot out the last racks he needed to win the tournament 13-11.Results:1st Brady Gollan $1,8002nd Glenn Atwell $1,1003rd Mike Massey $8004th Mike Zimmerman $5505th Her Letendre, Stan Tourangeau $3257th Rich Geiler, Paul Potier $2259th Glenn Bond, John Doherty, Amarlon Oliveros, Robert Callion $15013th Eddie Corrido, Robert Colby, Joe Trevino, Soud Alab Dulrazaq $10017th Dan Louie, John Duclose, Kris Iverson, Harris Platis, Mike Vidas, Owen Grady, Jeff Jiminez, Micah Omalley $60Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news in the sport of billiards and pool.
