Gutierrez and Lloyd Wrap Up Billiards SeasonFast Eddie’s Olhausen 9-Ball Tour / San Antonio, TXby Rick DavisThe final event of the Fast Eddies Olhausen 9-Ball Tour’s 2006 season took place December 2-3 at Fast Eddies in San Antonio, TX, where David Gutierrez took the open division and Heather Lloyd took the ladies’ division, both going undefeated.In the open division, the 67-player field was chopped down to eight by Sunday. On the one-loss side, Bill Fuller eliminated Gordon Van Der Veer 7-4 as Edwardo Ramirez bested James Davis Sr. by the same margin. Next, Bob Pyles knocked out Ramirez 7-2 and Sylver Ochoa handed Fuller his pink slip courtesy of a 7-4 defeat, bringing the top eight down to four.
The hot seat match began when Gutierrez met with J.P. Lopez, and before long he blazed past with a 9-2 score. Back on the one-loss side, Ochoa eliminated Pyles in the quarterfinals, although in the next round Lopez knocked him out after a double-hill battle. The finals offered a rematch between Gutierrez and Lopez, and although Lopez managed to do better, it was little use, as Gutierrez sealed the event with his 9-5 win.In the ladies’ division, a healthy 24-player field clashed as everyone raced towards the finish line. On the one-loss side, Kawana Watson eliminated Sophie Lopez 5-3 and Amanda Lampert shut out Kyu Yi 5-0. With the top four players decided, action moved back to the winners’ side, where Lloyd and Hayes clashed for the hot seat. Although the match was close at first, Lloyd managed to build up a lead and take it to a 7-5 conclusion to send Hayes out west.In the quarterfinals, Watson defeated Lampert 5-3 and then hit a brick wall in the form of Hayes, who shut her out 5-0, ushering Hayes to the finals for a rematch. This time around Lloyd was better prepared and slightly rested, and before Hayes knew what hit her, she was defeated 7-2, making Lloyd the champion of the final Fast Eddie’s stop of the season.Open Results:1st David Gutierrez2nd J.P.
