Harriman Gives Crowd Something to Talk About at IPT Billiard Tournament

Harriman Gives Crowd Something to Talk About at IPT Billiard TournamentIn a bizarre incident in tonight’s last round of the IPT billiards tournament, Johnny Archer was down 7-4 against Danny Harriman, who was faced with a shot that he would have to shoot from the middle of the table. So Harriman removed his shoes, climbed onto the table, and then calmly pocketed the ball and won the match. The amassed crowd was astonished, muttering amongst themselves, “Can he do that?”Afterward Archer remarked to Gabe Owen (pictured right), “I didn’t even shake his hand. He said, ‘You’re disrespecting me,’ and I said, ‘Hey, we’re in suits and ties here, and you’re jumping on the table like a monkey … you’re disrespecting me.”Standing nearby, Owen stated, “That’s awful. A loophole like that is bad.”  Owen is undefeated after two rounds.Discuss the IPT World Open 8-Ball ChampionshipVisit the IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship Image Gallery
“He had heard that someone had gotten up on the table,” Archer explained before leaving for the evening. “He basically went to the referee and asked the referee. The referee told him yes, you can get up on the table. So he takes his shoes off, jumps up on all fours, and shoots the balls. It was undignified, it was very disrespectful. No matter if it’s the rule or not, I don’t care. It disrespects the game, and if we’re going to be pros, if we’re going to be professional out here playing the biggest tournament in the world, there’s no call for us to jump up on top of the table and shoot the ball.” Archer still advances to Wednesday’s matches in spite of this loss. Harriman was undefeated for the day and will also advance.Tournament director Deno Andrews was called upon to comment, and he replied, “I looked at the rules, and apparently it is not a rule in the IPT official rules at this time. At this point it’s just the rule for this tournament, and this is really not the time to be reviewing the rules. I don’t know why it’s not in the rules … I don’t know if it’s necessary or if it’s just historical or traditional, but whatever the case may be, it’s just not a rule.”Francisco Bustamante went unscathed through today’s matches. Efren Reyes won three to advance, Edwin Montal won four, Ramil Gallego won four, Warren Kiamco only won two and so is eliminated. North American Open runner-up Marlon Manalo only won one game and therefore is also eliminated. Ronato Alcano notched three wins to advance, Jose Parica got three as well, and Rodolfo Luat advanced with two wins. Dennis Orcollo led his group with four wins, but Santos Sambajon Jr. was eliminated. No ladies advance to Wednesday’s rounds. Jasmin Ouschan was concerned that the forfeit from yesterday by Tom Storm was costing her the advancement. However, if she would have been given an 8-0 win yesterday, she wouldn’t have advanced—either way, she wouldn’t have had the games-won percentage to advance to Round Three. Imran Majid had 56.86%, putting him in third place after Tony Robles and Alex Pagulayan.Remaining undefeated for the event so far are Karl Boyes, Francisco Bustamante, Gabe Owen, Mick Hill, and Mika Immonen.Hall of Fame member Mike “The Mouth” Sigel was eliminated after his match against snooker star Quinten Hann of Australia 8-5. “I played terrible the whole tournament,” Hann recalled. “I lost my first two matches then played the worst. I’ve never played so bad … ever. I won three, lost two, and got through. I played well the last three but before that just terrible.“It was funny because we were in the players’ room before the match, and it was simple. If he beat me he was in—if I won, I was in. He just mouthed off a little, which was all fun, I got involved and started mouthing off because I just like to stir things. Then all of a sudden I missed a few balls, it’s not really my game to be able to talk, and I made two easy mistakes and he went four-one up. Then I got a bit mad with myself and I just ignored him then started playing good. The last three matches I played good, I ran twelve racks in the last three matches, so that’s probably more than I ran in six matches before that.”Qualifiers Steve Moore and Jason Kirkwood both advanced with four wins each. “The day went pretty well for me,” a pleased Kirkwood reported. “I broke a little better in a couple matches, but I didn’t play that well today. It’s amazing, I missed quite a few balls today and I kept getting away with it. Hopefully, if I start playing good, things could get ugly. Just gotta remain focused—the longer I go, the better I will get.”Tony Chohan advanced as well when he matched up with Cliff Joyner in the final round. “Oh my god, I played dead perfect. I broke and ran the first four then broke dry, he ran out and broke dry, then I ran another four. That was for me to get in—the winner of our match advanced to the next round.”The games-won percentage hurt George Breedlove as well, who missed advancing by two-tenths of a percent. Daryl Peach dusted him 8-2 in the final round and then commented, “Bottom line, I was making balls off the break, and I just beat George Breedlove eight-two, who is a real top player. I needed to win to get three wins, so now I am just waiting, it’s gonna come down to percentage.”American Rodney Morris scored four wins today, with the last an 8-4 victory over Dimitri Jungo. “We didn't break and run many racks, but we both played well, and I was up four-zero, so from there it was just trading racks. I won four today and was already through, but every match wins you extra money. I feel like I’m playing good, breaking good and running out.”Round 3            GROUP 41GROUP 42GROUP 43GROUP 44GROUP 45GROUP 46GROUP 47GROUP 48GROUP 49GROUP 50GROUP 51GROUP 52GROUP 53GROUP 54GROUP 55GROUP 56GROUP 57GROUP 58GROUP 59GROUP 60K.
