Hats Off To Townsend at the J. Pechauer Custom Cues Southeast Open 9-Ball Tourby Matthew PingorDothan, GA - Scotty Townsend was in dead-stroke February 11-12, as he raided the field of 42 players on the J. Pechauer Custom Cues Southeast Open 9-Ball Tour. Hosted by Pocket’s Billiards of Dothan, GA, the $2,360-added event welcomed players to perform upon eight Simonis 860 clad, nine-foot Gandy tables. Tommy Kennedy was busy grappling with David Pickle in the hot seat match. Pickle stumbled more than Ted Kennedy trying to negotiate the Capital building steps, not much of an obstacle as Kennedy ousted him 9-2. Two steps back in the quarterfinal, Townsend was gaining momentum. With his 9-4 advance over JR Rossman, he rolled on to his next victim. Now in the semifinal, Townsend was pitted against the vengeance eager Pickle. When all was said and done Townsend emerged victorious 9-7.
The finals produced a match so thrilling that Don King wishes he could promote it. Facing off against Townsend, Kennedy had no clue what he was getting into. If games within a match could be represented by water in a tub, then this match overflowed to 21 games. They traded games hand over fist. At one point, Kennedy had Townsend down 5-1. But Townsend overcame that slump to win 11-10, placing first and taking home $1,000.
