Hernandez Dominates Tri-State OpenBy John LeymanThe morning of September 18, 2004, started with a torrential rain storm flooding out highways in northern New Jersey and the uptown subways in New York City. Despite tropical storm Ivan’s pounding of the area in the early morning hours, 28 players still showed up to play in the first Open Class tournament of the Tri-State Tour’s 2004-2005 season.New Yorker Frankie Hernandez dominated throughout the event, o­nly allowing o­ne player, Wali Muhammad, to get to 6 in the race to 9.  All others fell swiftly and decidedly. Saturday had some interesting matches, with players like Jude Rosenstock putting their best game came forward.  Joey Kong played expertly and defeated all to get to Sunday undefeated.As Sunday started with o­nly Joey Kong and Hernandez undefeated, Kong got stuck in a major traffic jam by Yankee Stadium and had to forfeit his first match of the day. But not to be stopped by this, he played Marc Vidal for the honor of meeting Hernandez in the finals. Kong played a terrific set, not getting out of line o­nce and winning the set 9-0.
