Hernandez Wins Second Straight NYC EventBy Bill RosenbergerFrankie Hernandez doesn't officially own the NYC Billiard Tour, but he's won so many times, that it's pretty much his until someone can take it from him. It was more of the same on December 18-19, 2004, at Master Billiards in Sunnyside, NY, for Hernandez, who fought off a competitive 40-player field to score $1,200 in his second straight tour victory. Also entering Sunday's final matches along with Hernandez was Joey Korsiak, Tony Roberto, and Danny Barouty. Eddie Vasquez, who has quietly had a solid year on the regional tours, took center stage, though, by knocking Hernandez to the left side in a thrilling 9-8 match early on Sunday. While Hernandez was working on his comeback, Korsiak and Vasquez were dominating the winners' bracket. The two undefeated players matched up for the hot seat, and Korsiak held off Vasquez for a 9-4 win. Hernandez and Vasquez squared off in the semifinals, and Hernandez avenged his earlier loss in another tight match 9-7. In the race-to-13 finals, it was Hernandez and Korsiak, who are arguably two of the best players in eastern New York State. After Hernandez jumped to a quick 6-2 lead, Korsiak battled back one game at a time but was unable to get the match even, and Hernandez closed out the match 13-9.Results:1st Frankie Hernandez $1,2002nd Joey Korsiak $7503rd Eddie Vasquez $4004th Holden Chin $2505th Tony Roberto, Danny Barouty $1707th Brian Yi, Billy Lanna $110 Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news from the NYC Billiard Tour.
