Hernandez is Hot on Hampton Ridge 9-Ball TourBy InsidePOOL StaffNew Yorker Frankie Hernandez came out ahead of Josh Brothers to take the final match of the Hampton Ridge 9-Ball Tour on Sunday, September 26, 2004.  The tour made a stop at PJ’s Billiards in Linden, NJ, bringing out 25 of the area’s top 9-ballers to compete.PJ’s Billiards was host last weekend to an incredible winner-take-all challenge match between none other than Efren Reyes and Francisco Bustamante.  It also adheres to a strict code of behavior and is an excellent players’ room with its 20 Brunswick tables.
After suffering a hill-hill defeat to Hernandez in the winners’ bracket, Brothers went on to defeat past Reno Open champion Mike Davis 7-3, Christian Smith 7-1, and then Matt Krah in the semifinals.  Krah went to the “B” side after matching up with Hernandez, where their score was tied at 4-all when Krah missed a 9 ball, essentially giving control of the match to Hernandez.  In his rematch with Hernandez in the finals, Brothers took a 2-0 lead, but the undefeated Hernandez tied the match.  After invoking the three-foul rule, Brothers took a two-game lead with the help of a missed ball by his opponent; however, Hernandez took the next three games in a row for a 5-4 lead.  He missed his next 8 ball, and Brothers tied the match at 5 apiece in the race to 9.  After winning the next rack, Brothers was looking good, but an error on his part gave control back to Hernandez, who won the next three games in a row for the 9-6 victory.Hampton Ridge 9-Ball Tour makes their next stop at Comet Billiards in Parsippany, NJ, on October 17, 2004.  For more information, please call 973-334-7429.Results:1st Frankie Hernandez2nd Josh Brothers3rd Matt Krah4th Christian Smith5th Mike Davis, Trenton Marty7th Carmen Lombardo, Rob HartVisit InsidePOOL for the latest news from the Hampton Ridge 9-Ball Tour.
