IPT Ladies Suffer, Sigel and Strickland PrevailBy Sally P. TimkoThe 10 a.m. matches have concluded at the North American 8-Ball Open Championship, and interestingly, no woman has won a match yet. Two matches went hill-hill: Monica Webb lost to Dallas West, while Keith Bennett defeated Sarah Ellerby. Hall of Famers Ewa Laurance and Loree Jon Jones were bested by Danny Basavich and “Little Jon” Macias, respectively. Nick Varner dealt a stunning 8-2 defeat to Helena Thornfeldt. The WPBA’s number-two player, Karen Corr, suffered an 8-6 loss to Ray Martin, while Ed Kelly bested Gerda Hofstatter by the same score. Tammy Jones only won two games against Hall of Famer Mike Massey, Lou Butera dealt Jackie Broadhurst a stunning 8-1 blow, and Kelly Fisher suffered an 8-5 loss to Gary Abood.Visit the IPT North American Open image galleryDay 1 image galleryDay 2 image galleryMatch schedule
Mike Sigel and Earl Strickland played against Linda Carter and Miyuki Sakai, respectively, on the televised tables this morning. Eurosport and ESPNStar are doing live broadcasts of select first- and second-round matches. Carter managed to put three racks under her belt before Sigel won 8-3, and Strickland only allowed Sakai four before he swept past the finish line. “I’m playing very well,” “The Mouth” said afterward. “A few things came out where I couldn’t get out. In the first game I made a phenomenal run-out—I mean unbelievable—I needed shape on three key balls, and if I didn’t, the game was over. After one game like that I decided I’m not going to do that anymore, so I just decided to smash the rack and let her try to run, and I won like five games in a row. If she makes them all, then hey, good run, but she never did. She can’t run out. So that was my strategy, and it paid off—of course, I would never have done that with another player.”The Filipino contingent is going strong today. Efren “Bata” Reyes defeated Mary Kenniston 8-3, Alex “The Lion” Pagulayan bested Corey Harper 8-4. Francisco Bustamante won 8-3 over Andreas Koukiadakis, Gandy Valle dealt Jim Raney an 8-2 loss, and Marlon Manalo defeated Dee Adkins of Ohio 8-3.Browse by Group Group 1Alex LELYLou BUTERAJackie BROADHURSTJon KUCHAROJason KIRKWOODGroup 2Niels FEIJENKaren CORRRay MARTINLee Heuwagen Greg HOGUEGroup 3Tuan Kiat GOHKeith Bennett Sarah ELLERBYEric HJORLEIFSONDavid MATLOCKGroup 4Alex PAGULAYAN Mike MASSEYTammy JONESGoran MLADENOVICCorey HARPERGroup 5Austin MURPHYDanny BASAVICHEwa LAURANCESam MONDAYAnthony GINNGroup 6Mike GULYASSYEarl STRICKLANDMiyuki SAKAIChris ORMETeddy GARRAHANGroup 7Raj HUNDALDallas WESTMonica WEBBIsmael PAEZScott FROSTGroup 8William INCARDONANick VARNERHelena THORNFELDTJonathan PENEGARRico DIKSGroup 9Gabe OWENEfren REYESMary KENNISTONJames WALDENLuis CONDOGroup 10Francisco BUSTAMANTEEd KELLYGerda HOFSTATTERJim WEASTAndreas KOUKIADAKISGroup 11Mike SIGELPhilip HARRISONJames ROBERTSDavid BROXSONLinda CARTERGroup 12Joe MINICIDee ADKINSMarlon MANALORobin DODSONRichard BROUMPTONGroup 13Zlatko JAKULJLoree Jon JONESJohn MACIASErnesto DOMINGUEZKarl BOYESGroup 14Grady MATHEWSAndreja KLASOVICMarko LOHTANDERAllison FISHERJeff ABERNATHYGroup 15Dennis ORCOLLOKelly FISHERGary ABOODWayne CATLEDGEJohn KUTCHERGroup 16Ivaca PUTNIKJimmy WHITEQuinten HANNDavid ALCAIDERonato ALCANOGroup 17Bernie FRIENDLarry SCHWARTZGeorge SANSOUCIJohnny ARCHERDenver BARGERGroup 18Jeff Beckley Ike RUNNELSShannon DAULTONCorey DEUELRonnie WISEMANGroup 19Robert MCKENNAJohn WIMSShane VAN BOENINGThorsten HOHMANNMichael VIDASGroup 20Jim RANEYCharles BRYANTOliver ORTMANNMika IMMONENGandy VALLEGroup 21 Mike LEBRONVincent FACQUETDennis HATCHRonnie O’SULLIVANSandor TOTGroup 22  Leonardo GUNNARTom STORMDaryl PEACHJohn SCHMIDTKonihiko TAKAHASHIGroup 23 Colin COLENSOJimmy FUSCOGeorge BREEDLOVERalf SOUQUETMark TADEMYGroup 24  Jianbo FUPaul BRIENZALaurant TRAVERSJerry CALDERONSal BUTERAGroup 25  Warren KIAMCOBrian SALEHMichael ZIMMERMAN Keith MCCREADY Cliff JOYNERGroup 26  Aaron FRANKENSammy JONESEvgeny STALEVTony ROBLESAntonio LININGGroup 27 Stephan SANTLVilmos FOLDESRodolfo LUATJimmy WETCHMori MANABUGroup 28  Imran MAJIDRalph ECKERTThomas KENNEDYAaron CZETLIHoward VICKERYGroup 29 Lee CHENMANAdam WHEELERGerry WATSONShawn PUTNAMMarco MARQUEZGroup 30  Michael CERNEROJohl YOUNGERBrian GROCEJose PARICARafael MARTINEZGroup 31  Neil RAYBONEDavid RELJICRafael GONZALEZRodney MORRISTomoki MEKARIGroup 32  Tyler EDEYPaul POTIERKim DAVENPORTJason MILLERSteve MOOREGroup 33 Yannick BEAUFILSWade CRANEFabio PETRONIMax EBERLELarry NEVELGroup 34  Darren APPLETONAllen HOPKINSPatrick HOLTZMike DAVISTakeshi OKUMURAGroup 35  Ryan KELLEREdwin MONTALMarkus JUVAMarkus CHAMATArturo RIVERAGroup 36  John DITOROCarl MORRISBernd JAHNKEJeremy JONESRobb SAEZGroup 37  Lance SALAZARDanny DILIBERTOBobby HUNTERTony CHOHANTroy FRANKGroup 38  Ouahbi AMINEAlejandro CARVAJALMick HILLCharlie WILLIAMSSantos SAMBAJONGroup 39 Roland ACOSTAChris BARTRAMFrank ALVAREZLuc SALVASMichael SCHMIDTGroup 40  Stan TOURANGEAULeil GAYScotty TOWNSENDNick VAN DEN BERGTony CROSBVisit Inside POOL Magazine for the latest news in the sport of billiards and pool.
