IPT Players Meeting Sets Tone for First Eventby InsidePOOL StaffIPT founder Kevin Trudeau addressed the 200 entrants in the North American Open 8-Ball Championship Saturday, July 22. With the event beginning the next morning, he covered a wide range of topics and then opened up the tournament room to the players for practice.Visit the IPT North American Open image galleryMatch scheduleTrudeau mentioned that the North American 8-Ball Championship was not a seeded event but that the next events will be seeded according to monies won. Though the games-lost index method of scoring has been dropped, in its place is a games-won percentage, which means that every game still counts.
Reiterating that every tour member in 2007 is guaranteed to earn $100,000, Trudeau was treated to a huge round of applause. More irons in the fire will include a health plan, financial planning services, emergency loans, and pension and retirement plans. As the players have a vested interest in the tour, Trudeau explained that there were several ways in which they could help. Encourage people to watch the events on television, spread the word, and e-mail or call the networks. Invite people to visit the IPT’s website and join its membership for discounts on equipment, receive free tickets to events, watch events live on the Internet, and get access to DVDs. And support the business model, which is all about branding, buy purchasing and encouraging others to purchase the official tour products provided by Diamond Billiard Products, Gorina, Aramith, and Sardo Products. The format for this event will be round robin, races to 8. Half of the 200 players will play Sunday, and the other half Monday; at the end of Monday’s rounds, 80 players will be eliminated. Eliminated players will not be required to stay for the event’s conclusion.“I’m excited like everyone else, mostly because this is the biggest event in billiard history,” Mike Davis stated before heading into the meeting. This seems to be the general sentiment, as the players gear up for Sunday’s action.Visit Inside POOL Magazine for the latest news in the sport of billiards and pool.
