And for most of the players, it’s still up in the air as to whether or not they will advance.IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship ForumsVisit the IPT World Open 8-Ball Championship Image GalleryCharlie Bryant remains undefeated for today’s matches, going into the fifth round to play German qualifier Michael Schmidt. “I feel great today, I’m three and oh,” Bryant effused. “My break is starting to come together real good … it’s been a tough year for me, I lost my mom last year, and Saturday made a year at this tournament. I’m finally coming back to myself and my winning ways. I’m guaranteed to go through to tomorrow—the last set I broke and ran seven from the lag. I got one of the most awesomest breaks in the building, so it makes a big difference. I just hit them harder than anyone in the building, that’s something I been known for for a long time … it makes a big difference.”
For the most part, though, the Americans seemed to struggle through Round Four. Corey Deuel lost hill-hill to Tony Drago, the undefeated Mick Hill bested Nick Varner 8-4, Tony Robles lost 8-5 to Antonio Lining, Alex Lely defeated Mike Davis 8-5, and David Alcaide of Spain dealt Rodney Morris a double-hill loss. But Larry Nevel won 8-3 over fellow US player Gabe Owen, Danny Harriman won 8-2 over Ernesto Dominguez, Jason Kirkwood defeated Alex Pagulayan 8-6, and Steve Moore won his first match of the day over Ramil Gallego 8-4. “I missed one ball,” Moore stated with a smile. “I broke and ran four racks, then a ball skidded on me to win five in a row. But I ended up with a win, and that’s the main thing. To have any chance, I have to win next match. I’m happy. I played well my first two matches—it just didn’t happen. With Charlie I missed a ball and he ran the set out. With Nick, he had me six-two and made a mistake, I go seven-six and break the balls good but the cue ball gets kissed in so he runs out. Hopefully it will happen one more time … a win.”The Filipinos split wins in the fourth round. Francisco Bustamante, Dennis Orcollo, Jose Parica, and Antonio Lining won their matches, while Ronato Alcano, Edwin Montal, Rodolfo Luat, Efren Reyes, and Gallego lost. The Europeans are still going strong, especially the Brits. Karl Boyes remains undefeated for the event (along with Mick Hill and Francisco Bustamante), winning 8-6 over Fabio Petroni. Darren Appleton defeated Hung Ming Chu 8-5, and Chris Melling won 8-4 over Marko Lohtander. Additionally, Quinten Hann defeated Mika Immonen 8-5, qualifier Michael Schmidt won 8-5 over Raj Hundal, and Nick Van den Berg defeated Oliver “The Machine” Ortmann 8-3.“I played very well, I didn’t miss a ball,” confirmed Van den Berg. “I played perfect except for the break twice where I didn’t make a ball. I even made a few nice run-outs. He scratched on the first break, and I ran out to make four run-outs to go five-nil. Then he got to five-one because I didn’t make a ball, then he didn’t make a ball, and I went up seven-one. I broke dry, he went to seven-three then broke dry, and I ran out. But I’ve been unlucky today.”Player Stats and Prize MoneyRound 3 GROUP 69GROUP 70GROUP 71GROUP 72C. DeuelT. EngertT. DragoE. MontalS.
