It’s all Atwell in Port Clintonby David A. HanshawThe fourth stop on the Jacoby Cues Great Lakes Tour was held on December 3rd & 4th at Rack Attack Billiards Café in Port Clinton, Ohio. This tournament welcomed players from around the Midwest, including the #20 player in the WPBA, Janet Atwell. Atwell made short work of the field, never really being challenged after her first match, a 7-5 victory over Michigan’s CJ Jerome. The story within the story was 13-year-old Elizabeth Lovely from Dayton, Ohio, who posted convincing victories over her first three opponents. She tallied a record of 21-8 before being stopped on the winners’ side by Lansing, Michigan’s Tara Davis. The “Lovely” young sharpshooter’s march to the money rounds was only temporarily thwarted, for in her next match she blanked Cincinnati’s Dawn Fox, 7-0. That win would take her to Sunday play, where tour veteran Julie Melman ended her run, leaving Elizabeth in a very respectable 4th place. Melman would then fall to Qualifier winner and eventual second place finisher Tara Davis who fell short in the final losing 9-4 to Atwell.
The tour staff would like to thank the Rack Attack owners, Matt Heath and TJ Velliquette, and highly recommend that anyone within driving distance check out this warm and friendly establishment.
