John Salley Visits the North American Open 8-Ball ChampionshipJohn Salley of “The Best Damn Sports Show, Period” visited the North American Open 8-Ball Championship Tuesday afternoon and tried his luck at a rack of 8-ball against Shawn “The Love Sponge” Putnam. Upon seeing his opponent, Salle joked, “Wow—that’s a lot of polyester on one big man,” to which Putnam replied, “And I’m still eating—there could be more.”As Putnam racked the balls, Salley asked if he had any tips, and Putnam responded, “Just hit the balls extremely hard.” Salle asked, “That’s it? There isn’t anything else?” and Putnam added, “Oh yeah, don’t scratch.” But Salley’s break didn’t contact to rack too well, and Putnam joked, “Man, I know girls that break better than that."IPT discussion forumDay 3 image galleryMatch schedule
After two quick shots Putnam’s remaining balls were all in the open, and he joked that the game was over. Salley responded, “I bet ten thousand you can’t make them all.” Putnam replied, “I could make them all one-handed.” Salley answered, “Twenty thousand one-handed.” Putnam pulled out a wad of bills from his pocket and slammed it on the table. Salley jibed, “I said twenty thousand—not twenty ones.” After all the joking, Putnam did run out.While watching Putnam run out, Salley inquired, “Did you mean to put the cue ball exactly there?” Putnam quipped, “Of course—we’re not amateurs here. Do you plan to put the ball in the hoop when you play?”Salley posed for several photos with fans and IPT players and even visited the Hustlin USA booth, where he took away a white Hustlin cap that he wore out of the building. Salley joked, “I’m gonna wear this all night and just tell people I own the company.
