Kahn in Control at Amsterdam BilliardsTri-State Tour / New York, NYby Rick DavisComing back from a mid-event loss, Carl Yusuf Kahn picked up the slack to best the 26-player billiard field at the Tri-State Tour stop. The handicapped B-C-D 9-ball event took place at Amsterdam Billiards in New York, NY, over the December 3 weekend and was the last B-C-D event at Amsterdam before their end-of-year location change.
On the winners’ side, Dan Chapman bested Kahn 7-5, while Charles Bromley Jr. drilled Mike Harrington 6-1. In the hot seat match, Chapman kept control, slapping down Bromley 7-1 to reach the hot seat.On the one-loss side, Harrington eliminated Trevor Heal 7-3, while Kahn began his comeback. First Kahn knocked out Haram Maldonado 7-2, and then he eliminated Harrington 7-6 in the quarterfinals. Another double-hill match unfolded, and again Kahn kept in the action, defeating Bromley 7-6.A true double-elimination format pitted Kahn against Chapman in the finals. After taking the first set 7-5, Kahn looked good, and after improving on that to take the second set 7-3, Kahn had made one of the biggest comebacks on this year’s tour. Kahn has complete control of the B+ class points board and has attended the most events on tour of any class by far. The next stop will be December 9 at Comet Billiards in Parsippany, NJ, for B-C-D straight pool.Results:1st Carl Yusuf Kahn2nd Dan Chapman3rd Charles Brompley Jr.4th Mike Harrington5th Trevor HealHaram Maldonado
