Keeping His Feet on the GroundThe Markus versus Marcus match between Juva and Chamat ended in an 8-5 win for Juva, who hails from Finland. “My second match went much much better than the first,” Juva said afterward, who lost to Jonathan Pinegar 8-4 earlier. “I was very tired and slept only a couple of hours because yesterday was so exciting. I also didn’t eat breakfast and was feeling weak, but before this match I ate and started to concentrate more one ball at a time. I started to run racks and feel more confident, and with two matches to go I feel I can win, although anything can happen. I have to stay humble and keep my feet on the ground.”IPT discussion forumDay 4 image galleryShannon Elizabeth image galleryMatch scheduleDennis Orcollo, who qualified for the IPT in Bellflower, CA, last March, came out on top of a brutal hill-hill battle with Johnny Archer in the second round. In the last rack, Archer scratched and threw his cue to the ground in disgust. “Very difficult match,” explained Orcollo. “Hill-hill. I was very lucky. Archer played good on the twelve ball but then scratched. I had a lot of run-outs but two scratches on the break also.”
Halfway through his third day of play, Rafael Martinez remains undefeated for the entire event, winning his first match today against Niels Feijen double-hill. Ralf Souquet is barreling through the field, this time dusting Shawn Putnam 8-5. David Matlock also continues his winning streak with an 8-5 victory over Jonathan Pinegar. Team Philippines is doing well: Antonio Lining dealt Mika Immonen an 8-6 loss, “Marvelous” Marlon Manalo continues on his winning streak with an 8-5 victory over Gabe Owen, and Santos Sambajon Jr. won over Jon Kucharo 8-5. Earlier, Efren Reyes stunned Raj Hundal with an 8-1, while Rodolfo Luat won 8-3 over former world straight pool champion Bobby Hunter.Charlie “The Korean Dragon” Williams suffered a loss to Sarah Ellerby 8-4 in his first match of the day. “Sarah Ellerby beat me—she played really well,” Williams mused. “I had a couple chances but I couldn’t capitalize on anything from the break, and she played real well. I feel good, that’s how eight-ball is—if you get good break and patterns, you run out. Anybody can beat anybody. My next two matches I have the same attitude: try to break get an open table, make the ball, and run out.”Round 3 Group 61Group 63Group 65Group 67R. LuatV. FoldesR. MorrisL. NevelB. HunterGroup 68R.
