Keith McCready Wins Falcon Tour Champion Event By InsidePOOL StaffKeith McCready of "The Color of Money" fame defeated Mike Davis 9-2 in the final match of the Falcon Cue 9-Ball Tour year-end event, which took place at Champion Billiards in Laurel, MD, this weekend.  McCready recently took third place at the U.S. Open in Chesapeake, VA, and is a constant threat to win any tournament he enters. This event drew 66 of the tour's finest, including 15 of the top 16 in their points race, and the top 16 players were seeded.  McCready screamed through the event unscathed, defeating Jim "Shorty" Henson in the hot seat match 9-7 to await his fate as Davis, who lost his first match and fought his way through the one-loss side, and Jerry Slivka fought for fourth place.  Davis was the 7-2 victor in that match and went on to face a motivated Henson in the semifinals.
The semifinal match was fairly close, as both Davis and Henson played exceptionally well.  Davis has been making his presence felt on the pro circuit this year in a big way, and Henson was the U.S. Amateur Champion in 2002, making for an exciting match, but Davis simply outplayed his opponent, and he won 7-5."Earthquake" was waiting for Davis, and when Davis missed a makeable 8 ball in the first rack to give McCready the first game, the momentum swung one way and never went back.  McCready, overjoyed with his good fortune, gained a great deal of confidence as he raced around the table pocketing balls like crazy.  He had a 5-0 lead before Davis even got on the board.  Some scrappy play and safety battles ensued, and Davis won another game to make it 5-2, but it seemed clear that McCready was not going to stop until he was victorious, and he ultimately won the match by the score of 9-2.After his excellent victory, McCready said, “I want to thank all of the folks from the Falcon Cue Tour staff for doing a real nice job all season.  Cece, Andy, Nick, and Mike really put forth a lot of effort, which makes this tour as successful as it is, and it seems like it is getting better and better.  What I like the most, when it comes down to the nitty gritty, everybody gives it their all, but the regular players on the tour are what separate this tour from the rest.  It is like family now.  Looking forward to the new season, and again, my sincere thanks to everybody for making this happen.”In the women's division, tour favorite Sueyen Rhee defeated Gwen Dickert in the somewhat one-sided finals by the score of 7-3.Because this was the year-end event, the points totals are now confirmed for 2003.  In the open division, Mike Davis was first, with Keith McCready second.  In the women's division, Sueyen Rhee was the undisputed leader.Results:1st Keith McCready $1,6002nd Mike Davis $1,0503rd Jim Henson $6504th Jerry Slivka $4305th Brad Grasso, Jerry PiersonVisit InsidePOOL for the latest in the sport of billiards and pool.
