Klatt in Command
Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour / Rochester, NY
By Rick Davis
The March 24-25 stop of the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour visited Classic Billiards in Rochester, NY, where Jason Klatt led a pack of Canadian invaders that bested the 45-player field, all of whom had their eyes on the $2,000-added purse.
On the winners’ side Klatt met John Morra in the hot seat match, and after each player fought hard to take any advantage, they ended with Klatt edging out Morra double-hill. On the one-loss side Bucky Souvanthong squeaked past Chris Orme 9-7, while Dan Doerner drilled Walter Szydlowski 9-3. Clashing in the quarterfinals, Souvanthong took a huge lead early on, getting up 6-2, but Doerner turned up the heat and reclaimed control to win double-hill.
With only two matches, to go the remaining three players had showed everyone just how the game is played in Canada. In the semifinals Morra dominated Doerner, eliminating him 9-4, then headed back to face Klatt in the event’s final showdown. Each player gained ground early on, although Klatt proved to be too strong as he defeated Morra 9-6 to claim the event.
