Landon Shuffett Wins Inaugural Derby Day Classic The first annual Derby Day Classic kicked off o­n May 1, 2004, and 27 amateur competitors from seven central Kentucky counties converged o­n the Rack and Cue in Campbellsville, KY.  The main event consisted of o­ne 9-ball event and o­ne 8-ball event.  The average age of the players was 28, but it was 9-year-old Landon Shuffett of Greensburg who won the overall title with first-place honors in the 9-ball division and a much-needed fifth-place finish in the 8-ball.  At o­ne point spanning across both events, Shuffett posted 9 straight wins.  To date, Shuffett has played in 199 tournaments, but this is his most significant showing as of yet.Total payout for the Derby Day Classic was $1,308, with Shuffett collecting a total of $358 for his 15-match day.  Lonnie Riddle of Columbia finished second in the overall.  Joe Mattingly of Lebanon got second in the 9-ball.  Cliffton Roy of Campbellsville won the 8-ball division, and Steve Harris of Munfordsville placed second.  Pictured with Shuffett is o­ne of the state's top promoters, David Whitlock of the Rack and Cue in Campbellsville, KY. Visit InsidePOOL for the latest news from the sport of billiards and pool.
